Atlantic Housing Foundation, Inc. purchased the property for the Waters at James Crossing Apartments in 2019 with a vision to renovate it and make it a better place to live for the Lynchburg residents. The community has experienced challenges over the years, and AHF is working to bring about a change that will benefit both residents and the surrounding community of Lynchburg.

The multimillion-dollar project encountered delays due to the covid pandemic, but construction is now well underway and scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2023. Exterior updates will include new paint, lighting, security and camera systems, building signage, roofs, gutters, and downspouts, landscaping, drainage improvement, pavements, curbs and sidewalks. Interior enhancements will be even more extensive with new appliances, bath accessories, cabinets and countertops, doors and hardware, HVAC system, flooring, finish carpentry, interior lighting, plumbing fixtures and systems, drywall and paint, windows and treatments, and enhanced ADA-compliant units.

AHF’s mission focuses not only on meeting residents’ practical need for housing, but also community transformation. The organization has been meeting with the Lynchburg Police Department, City Council, City Manager, Neighborhood Outreach Connection (NOC) and others to build a foundation of support for on-site programming at the Waters at James Crossing Apartments. AHF’s transformation model includes working with a network of volunteers and community partners to break generational cycles of poverty through after school tutoring, job training, educational scholarships, and other strategic resources.
