(Miami, FL – September 5, 2024) Atlantic Housing Foundation, Inc. (AHF) is announcing that they have obtained HUD approval to provide a long-term temporary living arrangement for their Temple Court residents displaced by the June 10 fire. The residents will be relocating to The Residences at Sawyer’s Walk in Miami, a newly built affordable senior living community just five blocks from the former Temple Court location. Resident Miriam Valdez was happy to hear this news. When asked how she felt about the move, she said [translated], “I am so excited to be moving to Sawyer’s Walk! Thank you AHF, Jeromey, and Jenny for never leaving us alone and finding us a place to call home again.”

Atlantic Housing Foundation, Inc., owner of Temple Court, plans to help the residents move to their new home in the next few weeks. AHF President & CEO Michael Nguyen said, “We’re thrilled to have found such a great community for our residents. We know our seniors have been through a lot over the past few months, and we greatly appreciate their patience and cooperation through all of this. We want to make this transition as smooth as possible for them.”

Due to the devastating fire and the loss of their personal belongings, Atlantic Housing Foundation and the owners of The Residences at Sawyer’s Walk will be providing the residents with new furniture at their new apartments.

In addition, Atlantic Housing Foundation contributed $100,000 on their behalf and raised an additional $17,000 in contributions through a GoFundMe page. From that account, AHF will cover any required utility deposits and the remainder will be disbursed equally among the impacted households in the form of gift cards so they can purchase other necessities such as linens and cookware.

Mr. Nguyen also expressed gratitude for the help they have received since the fire. “We want to say thank you once more to the Miami Fire Department and Police Department for rescuing and protecting our residents at the time of the fire. Thank you to Mayor Suarez, HUD, and the Department of Health and Human Services for helping us to connect residents with vital resources throughout this time of need. We also want to thank the Red Cross for their immediate response during the first 24 hours and especially Share Your Heart for serving our residents with meals and donations of clothing and other items over the last few months. And a special thank you to Motel 6 and Woodspring Suites Doral for their flexibility in this situation and for housing and serving our residents so well. We’re also grateful for the many other local businesses and organizations that provided timely help, including meals, hygiene bags, reading glasses, gift cards, and groceries, and also for the GoFundMe donors who gave so generously toward this cause.”
